The Fightby ~Davide-sd

Hi all,
in this last weeks i worked on a composition i had in mind for some times. I called it 'The Fight': the Daedalus is fighting against a Replicator ship; i also add an f-302, i like it.
For the planet i used a render of the Earth by Jmoney, but it's not supposed to be the earth, it's just a beautiful blue planet. This is my first 'big' composition: the ships and shields were rendered in 3ds max, compositing in photoshop.

How did you do the shield effect? Is it an actual reactive material that detects impacts and displays something or is it just a fixed plane with a texture applied?
